HalalNomad ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
1. Information We Collect
Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name. We do not collect your real name, phone number, or physical address.
Location data: We access your device's location to show Halal places near you. Location is used in real-time only and is not stored on our servers or shared with third parties.
User-generated content: When you add places, write reviews, upload photos, or submit verifications, this content is stored on our servers and displayed publicly to other users.
Usage analytics: We collect anonymous usage data (screen views, feature usage, app events) via PostHog to improve the app. This data does not include personally identifiable information.
Crash reports: We use Sentry to collect crash reports and performance data. These reports include device type and OS version but no personal information.
Push notification tokens: If you enable push notifications, we store your device's push token to send notifications. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the HalalNomad service
- To show you Halal places near your current location
- To display your contributions (places, reviews, verifications) to other users
- To calculate and display your contributor points and tier
- To send push notifications about your account activity (if enabled)
- To improve the app through anonymous analytics
- To diagnose technical issues through crash reports
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS). Authentication tokens are stored in your device's secure keychain (iOS Keychain / Android EncryptedSharedPreferences), not in plain text storage.
We use row-level security policies to ensure users can only modify their own data. All data is transmitted over HTTPS.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We share data only with the following service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Supabase — database and authentication
- Google Maps — map display and directions
- Sentry — crash reporting (anonymous)
- PostHog — usage analytics (anonymous)
- RevenueCat — subscription management
- Expo — push notifications
5. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data by viewing your profile in the app
- Correct your display name and account information
- Delete your account and all associated data by contacting us at naeemsani95@gmail.com
- Opt out of push notifications via your device settings

6. Children's Privacy
HalalNomad is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.
7. GDPR Compliance (EU Users)
If you are located in the European Union, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Our legal basis for processing your data is your consent (account creation) and legitimate interest (app improvement via anonymous analytics).
